SINGAPORE boasts a stronger currency and infrastructure, and it is as a matter of fact, a very wealthy country. However, a viral video on TikTok has caused an uproar, claiming Singaporeans of a particular race skip showering in the morning before going to work.
A TikTok user recently claimed that many Singaporeans don’t shower for days particularly affecting public transport users, forcing fellow commuters to endure unpleasant body odour.
As the online war rages on with the hashtag #MandilahSingapura (Bathe, Singapore) trending, let us dissect the comments accompanying the video.
The criticism, posted by TikTok user Steph, has divided Singaporeans on the issue – some believe morning showers are necessary, while others disagree for their own reasons. In her video, Steph urged Singaporeans to shower before taking public transport.
She also commented that the body odour from those who do not shower smells like “dirty bedsheets” and “sweat mixed with greasy hair”.
“I hope Singaporeans shower before going to work. I know many claim the smell comes from foreigners, but no – it’s you. It’s even worse when you don’t shower after exercising. I think it bothers people,” she said.
This sparked a response from TikTok user Xinhui, who asked people to stop telling her to shower in the morning, saying they do not have enough sleep and have eyebags when they wake up in the morning. — Focus Malaysia
