JELEBU: An Umno Supreme Council member has dismissed claims that 14 of the party's MPs are set to withdraw support for the unity government.
"It's not true," Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias told reporters at an event last night.
The Negeri Sembilan Umno chief was responding to rumours that several Umno MPs planned to withdraw support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the speculation was aimed at provoking Umno, adding that all of the party's MPs were bound by pre-election agreements, including a RM100 million bond.
"Additionally, the Umno constitution was amended on Jan 13, 2023, to prevent MPs from going against the party's decisions, including those related to political alliances and support for a prime minister.
"This also includes signing any deals with our political opponents," he said, adding that certain quarters have repeatedly spread rumours of Umno MPs "defecting."
Earlier, Jalaluddin distributed parliamentary aid at the Jelebu Umno office. - NST
