Elderly man killed in Johor fire, three homes severely damaged

JOHOR BARU: The charred remains of an 84-year-old man was found when fire gutted three terrace houses in Taman Permas Jaya here at about midnight.

The victim was identified as Md Aris Samar while his 57-year-old daughter and three grandchildren aged between 16 and 21 escaped the incident unharmed.

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue station operations commander Senior Fire Superintendent II Saifulbahri Mahpop said a team of 33 firefighters were deployed to the scene after they were alerted to the fire at 12.13am.

"The victim was found with 70 per cent burns on the upper floor of a house and was confirmed dead by medical personnel," he said in a statement.

He added that the fire was brought under control at 2am, and the operation was fully completed about an hour later.

He also said one house was 80 per cent destroyed, while two others suffered 55 and 59 per cent damage, respectively. - NST
