According to the Bangkok Post, the fatal incident occurred near Rama 2 Soi 25, close to the Rama III-Dao Khanong expressway, at 1.48am local time.
The report said more than 20 workers were at the scene when the concrete beam, located about 200 metres from an entrance to the expressway, collapsed onto an existing structure, causing multiple casualties.
Rescue teams and officers from the Bangkok Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department were deployed to the scene, using sniffer dogs and specialised equipment to locate survivors.
As of 7am, authorities confirmed that five workers were dead, while at least 27 others sustained injuries.
Rescue efforts were ongoing, with two victims recovered and another body located in the debris. Two others remained missing.
All those injured in the incident were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
A worker at the site recounted hearing loud noises from the structure moments before it collapsed while concrete was being poured to join the columns.
