MELAKA: A secondary school student here passed away after collapsing near the school field while walking to the canteen this morning.
Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said the incident occurred at around 10:30am during the school's recess period.
Earlier in the day, he said, the 14-year-old student, who was an active volleyball player, had attended a physical education class focused on the sport.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was walking towards the canteen when he suddenly collapsed near the school field.
He was then rushed to Melaka Hospital in an unconscious state.
"Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed for 30 minutes, but he was later pronounced dead by the attending doctor," he told reporters tonight.
Christopher said the cause of death is pending a full laboratory report.
However, he confirmed that there were no criminal elements involved, and the case has been classified as sudden death. - NST
