KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has urged the public to show compassion towards Selangor Umno leader Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos, who is currently receiving treatment for cancer.
In a statement, the former prime minister said he was aware of comments suggesting that Jamal should apologise to him for past remarks made during his opposition to Umno over the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.
“In my view, there is no need to bring up such matters against a fellow Muslim who is going through a difficult time,” he said.
Instead, Dr Mahathir called on the public to pray for Jamal’s recovery and hope for his return to good health.“I believe we should pray for Datuk Jamal’s recovery and hope that he regains his health as before,” he added.
Dr Mahathir also took the opportunity to offer his own apology to Jamal if he had ever wronged him in any way.
It was reported yesterday that the health of Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal has reportedly worsened after his cancer spread to the brain.
Previous media reports said that Jamal had previously been hospitalised multiple times for treatment of stage four lung cancer. - malaymail
