Aminuddin, the two-term Negeri Sembilan menteri besar, believed that it would be “quite difficult” to defend the post as many others are also eyeing the post.
“As we all know, after we formed the government, there would be more leaders contesting for the vice-president’s post,” he said, according to Sinar Harian.
Nonetheless, he said, democracy should be celebrated and that winning and losing was part and parcel of politics.
“If I lose, I would have to come to terms with that. And even if I win, I must still look at my challengers as comrades because they also have huge leadership potential,” he said.
PKR’s four elected vice-presidents are Aminuddin, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari and federal ministers Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Chang Lih Kang.
Amirudin and Nik Nazmi have also announced that they would be defending their vice-presidencies.
Aminuddin was elected PKR vice-president for the first time during the party’s elections in 2022.
