Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the incident actually involved a 33-year-old woman with a mental health condition who had followed a visitor accompanied by a child at the mall.
“At the time of the incident, the suspect was reportedly talking to herself before suddenly shouting and attacking the two mall visitors,” he was quoted by Utusan Malaysia as saying.
He said the mall’s security personnel immediately detained the woman and took her to the Melaka Tengah police station for further investigation.
The 46-second video clip, widely shared on social media, shows a commotion involving a woman being apprehended at the mall.
Christopher said further checks revealed that the woman has a record of receiving psychiatric treatment at Melaka Hospital and is under medical supervision.
He said she has been sent to Melaka Hospital for further evaluation.
He urged the public to refrain from making allegations that could cause unnecessary alarm. - FMT
