The government will invest RM5 million in an AI-powered digital transcription system to enhance efficiency at Industrial Courts, says human resources minister Steven Sim.

Sim said the system to transcribe court proceedings will help expedite cases and improve overall case management.

“At the moment, some courts still rely on manual transcription, which can take time. With AI, transcriptions can be generated instantly, allowing for faster legal processes,” he said when opening the ministry’s building at Weld Quay here.

He said justice delayed is justice denied, and the new system would ensure faster decisions for industrial disputes.

With the new system, Sim said case data can be retrieved within three days compared to 30 currently. Fees for accessing court records have also been reduced to RM15.

Separately, he said the Industrial Court in Penang will have a third courtroom dedicated to hearing Social Security Organisation appeals.

Presently, those wanting to appeal Socso cases have to go to Kuala Lumpur.

“We are also working on establishing a one-stop labour service centre, where workers and employers can resolve issues at one place, instead of going to different government agencies,” he said.

Sim added that the government was considering making Industrial Court decisions final as part of a “harmonisation” of 28 laws, which he said were partially archaic. - FMT
