Juwairiya said she intends to continue the plans drawn up by the current leadership of the women’s wing, adding that she would pay particular attention to boosting recruitment in her next term.
The recruitment of female PKR members has been rather slow. I will prioritise this matter, especially to attract younger women to join the wing.
“Efforts to strengthen the grassroots must continue,” she told FMT.
Juwairiya will be challenged once again by former Johor Wanita PKR chief Napsiah Khamis, who had also contested for the same post in PKR’s 2022 elections.
Juwairiya won the Wanita PKR deputy chief’s post in 2022, after defeating Napsiah and Faizah Ariffin.
Napsiah said she hopes to further elevate women’s stature in PKR, but acknowledged she faces challenges ahead to wrest the post from Juwairiya.
“I am aware of the challenges ahead, but I believe I can provide an alternative for PKR members in the women’s wing,” she said.
PKR will hold its divisional elections from April 11 to 20, while the central leadership polls will take place on May 24. - FMT
