Sinar Harian reported that the 34-year-old man was charged with committing the offence against his daughter, who is four years and six months old, at a condominium unit in Jalan Gembira, Kuala Lumpur, between 9.30pm and 5.30am on March 4 and 5.
He was charged under Section 14 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same Act, which provides for up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping if convicted.
“Should the court decide to use its discretion to allow bail, I propose RM10,000 and the additional condition that the accused not be allowed to approach the victim and complainant, who is the victim’s mother.
“The accused must also report once a month to a nearby police station,” deputy public prosecutor Atiqa Nazihah Azmi said, after noting that it was a non-bailable offence.
Lawyer Chong Seng Ming, who represented the accused, appealed for a lower bail as the accused’s father and guarantor was a retiree.
He said he would ensure the accused’s attendance at all court proceedings and accept all additional conditions.
Judge Kafli Che Ali allowed bail at RM8,000 and the additional conditions requested by the prosecution, and set May 16 for mention of the case. - FMT
