FORMER UMNO Supreme Council member Isham Jalil says he wants to work with PAS to help one of its leaders become the next prime minister, praising the party’s relatively clean record on corruption.
In a Facebook video, he claimed kickbacks for government projects remain a problem under the unity government.
Isham Jalil says the practices that led to BN’s 2018 defeat can only be curbed through political funding laws, adding that eliminating kickbacks in government will require a leader with a clean record.
“This requires a prime minister who is willing to fight and comes from a party with a clean record. When you look at PAS, they appear to have the fewest corruption issues,” he said.
“That is why I want to work with PAS and support one of their leaders as prime minister,” he added. However, he clarified that he is not a PAS member.
Isham, sacked from UMNO in December 2023 for criticising its alliance with DAP, has since aligned with the opposition, appearing at a PN rally in July.
The question of PN’s prime ministerial candidate remains unsettled, with PAS figures like Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar floated, while many in Bersatu and Gerakan still back Muhyiddin Yassin. PAS says the choice will only be made after taking power. — Focus Malaysia
