The East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) will be toll-free from 6am today until 11.59pm on Sept 30, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
“In the spirit of Merdeka, I am pleased to announce 30 days of toll-free travel on the EKVE starting at 6am tomorrow,” he said when opening Section One of the expressway at the Ampang Toll Plaza in Kuala Lumpur today.
The 24km Section One features four interchanges, located at Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat, and Ampang.
In his speech, the prime minister urged that the construction of Section Two be expedited without delays.
“Congestion has already reached its peak. In Kuala Lumpur and surrounding cities, traffic jams are severe, so these highway projects must be accelerated and kept on schedule despite the high costs involved.
“Besides education and healthcare, public works and transport also receive the highest allocations, as Malaysia has become a major tourist destination. These facilities are now essential not only for local residents but also for visitors,” he said.
Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi, and Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
