PETALING JAYA:
Safety features at the Kelana Jaya LRT line functioned as intended after a woman fell on the tracks at the Abdullah Hukum station yesterday, says transport minister Loke Siew Fook.

Loke said he had been briefed on the incident and how the platform intrusion emergency stop system was activated as the woman fell on the tracks and a train approached the station.

“I am grateful that the victim’s life was saved, and the existing safety system functioned as it should during an emergency situation,” he said in a Facebook post. “This incident should serve as a reminder to all of us to remain vigilant and follow the safety regulations at public transport stations.”

Loke thanked the fire and rescue department for their swift response and other passengers for being patient despite the incident delaying their journeys.

The fire and rescue department said the victim, a 39-year-old woman, escaped with injuries on her hands and face. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the victim stated she had slipped before falling on the tracks. - FMT
