Johor BN chief says the Endau candidate’s track record in serving the people has won over grassroots support despite criticism over her party-hopping history.

He said the candidate, better known as “Kak Awi,” continues to enjoy strong local support due to her strong track record of serving the community, Utusan Malaysia reported.
“As we can see today, we are grateful for the Rumah Bangsa initiative introduced by the Umno president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi). Similarly, at the grassroots level, Alwiyah has been accepted back into the BN fold.
“We all know Alwiyah is a good leader. Even when she was in the opposition, she continued working for the people.
“Thank God we have accepted her back into BN,” Onn Hafiz said.
Alwiyah won the seat on a BN ticket in 2018 before joining Bersatu and retaining it in the 2022 state polls on a Perikatan Nasional ticket. She returned to Umno earlier this month.
Alwiyah won the Endau seat with a 3,041-vote majority in a five-cornered contest in the 2022 election.
Endau, which has 28,767 registered voters, is now set for a four-cornered contest between Alwiyah, Saiful Nizam Samat (PH), Hasnul Hakimi Hussien (PN), and Jati Awang (Asli).
Polling will take place on July 11, with early voting scheduled for July 7. - FMT
