YOURSAY | ‘Only 43 percent voted, what convincing majority?’
DAP stays in govt with 'convincing majority'
Apanama is back: DAP’s 2,223 delegates attended the special congress yesterday, accounting for about 52.12 percent of those registered to attend the event. This means only about half. Why did the other half not turn up?
A total of 2,099 votes were counted, with 88 percent, or 1,857 delegates, voting for the party to remain in government. The remaining 242 voted for the party to leave the administration.
This means only 43.53 percent of the total DAP delegates voted for the party to remain, so how can you call it a “convincing majority”?
DAP is a joke! This is called the DAP delegates’ decision. What a joke!
I assume the other 56.47 percent may have voted not to stay in Madani.
BlueShark1548: I thought there were supposed to be 4,200 attendees? What happened to the rest? 1,857 is not even half of 4,200. Looks like a sham result. Well, let the DAP leadership syiok sendiri.
We shall deliver the rakyat’s result come GE16, which should be soon. It is no longer for Anwar to call.
FellowMalaysian: Why is there only 2,223 out of a total expected attendance of 4,200 grassroots members, or 52.1 percent, represented?
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has to explain why almost half the grassroots either abstained from voting or did not turn up at all.
Average Joe: The opposition will have the last say on whether DAP stays or withdraws.
However, Pakatan Harapan is already in a difficult situation. If DAP withdraws, it could be the end of the current unity government.
Therefore, staying is still the best option. I salute DAP members for voting with cool heads and mature minds.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is still the best option Malaysia has at this time. The current government has only been in power for less than three years, and you expect it to perform miracles and walk on water?
It will take many more years to put this house in order.
GrayCondor1956: DAP, you are right to stay. Now push for at least some of the promised reforms - Anwar should realise that giving in to Umno has not been good for him or the nation.
They have backstabbed him and are riding high on recent state election victories, trying to get back in power to fill their gravy train.
The country has lost so much under them. Do the right things and the nation will stand behind you.
We have had enough of incompetent leadership before GE15. I hope Anwar wakes up to the reality that he may be handing over the reins to leaders who only want to enrich themselves.
Turnedback: BN is too demanding because Anwar allows it to happen. He is too soft to fight his opponents, instead attacking and splitting PKR to maintain his grip on power, but he loses almost every seat he contested.
DAP is staying, so PKR should prove that they made the right decision. If DAP chose to leave Harapan, the government would collapse, and BN and PAS are the ones who would benefit from early elections.
GreenPigeon5479: Anwar may not be a racist, but he has allowed racial slurs to go unchecked, and he has been very lavish in spending taxpayers’ money for his personal pet projects while neglecting the basic necessities of Malaysians.
For example, E-invoicing is killing the golden goose.
Spinnot: According to the DAP party constitution, the quorum for a party national congress (National Assembly of delegates) must be at least 25 percent of the total number of delegates entitled to attend the congress.
This is a decision for DAP delegates to make. Respect their decision even if it did not turn out as you wished.
NoobMaster69: If today DAP voted to leave, you would say it was a wise choice without even taking the turnout into consideration.
All you would do is say it was a slap in Anwar’s face and he should consider quitting. Well, let’s see how long before you delete your post and write them again!
Across the Straits: There is still only one word. Reform the system and don’t worry about the possible outcome of the next election.
Make sure the next government will not wreck the country and turn it into a laughing stock in the eyes of others.
Quad: A case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t too! Quit now, and Umno/PAS will be the happiest, as they will force a general election since they are riding high after the results of the recent state elections.
I see the decision to stay as a mature and right one.
Mechi: I prayed, as I know that without DAP, corruption would increase in Malaysia, and without DAP challenging Anwar, we would see more of such “MCA ultra boys” being more prominent in the future.
No, we cannot afford immature leaders. Now, DAP has to watch MACC and Anwar closely. Justice must prevail. Then, more investment would be attracted.
BlueShark1548: We now have a better alternative, Bersama, headed by moderate Malay leaders without Umno DNA in a multiracial party.
We should no longer depend on DAP, a Chinese-dominant party successfully painted by Umno and PN as a Chinese party.
Several discharges not amounting to acquittals (DNAA) happened under DAP’s watch. The ban on pig farming in Selangor was supported by DAP exco members, likewise temple issues. What about the Unified Examination Certificate and other institutional reforms?
DAP even abandoned Teoh Beng Hock’s family. Do not depend on DAP, as it has shown itself to be unreliable.
Ensure that Bersama has many MPs in Parliament at GE16 and you will see the difference. - Mkini
