Bersama names candidates for 15 seats in Melaka polls

 Among them is Dr Solehin Saleh, brother of Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh, who will contest Bemban.

Bersama leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the party, being a ‘new brand’, had more work to do to introduce itself to voters.

Bersama will contest 15 seats in the upcoming Melaka state election, says party leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

A surprise choice is Dr Solehin Saleh, brother of Umno Youth chief and Merlimau assemblyman Dr Akmal Saleh. Solehin will stand for Bersama in Bemban.

Nik Nazmi said Bersama, as a “new brand”, had more work to do to introduce itself to voters.

“We are announcing our candidates early so they can introduce themselves to voters faster. You would be surprised at the impact you can achieve when you meet voters on the ground earlier,” he said at a gathering tonight.

The next Melaka state election is due by late February 2027 at the latest, but chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh has reportedly said it could be held as early as September.

Bersama’s first electoral outing was in the July 11 Johor polls, where all 15 of its candidates were defeated and lost their deposits.
