An MBJB spokesman said the council viewed food safety and cleanliness seriously after inspecting the premises, which scored only 65 per cent, or a Grade C, for cleanliness.
He said inspectors found flies in soup and fly eggs on raw chicken, posing a direct contamination risk to consumers.
Several food handlers had not received anti-typhoid vaccinations and lacked food handler certificates, he said.
He said the sink was not fitted with a grease trap, allowing food waste and wash water to flow directly into the public drain. The cooking area was covered in food waste and grease spills.
In the preparation area, food items were stored uncovered, mixed, and exposed to flies. Refrigerator conditions were unsanitary, with spilt food waste and disorganised storage.
Workers were found operating without proper caps, aprons, or footwear, while wearing accessories during food handling. The eatery was also found using polystyrene containers for food packaging.
The spokesman said the closure order was issued under By-law 49(1) of the MBJB Licensing of Trades, Businesses and Industries By-laws 2016.
He reminded all food establishment operators that hygiene went beyond fulfilling licensing requirements, as it was a fundamental duty to public health and safety.
MBJB will continue conducting routine inspections and enforcement actions to ensure all eateries across Johor Baru strictly comply with established health and hygiene standards, he said. - NST
