PKR congress a chance to reflect, close ranks, says Tengku Zafrul

The PKR National Congress should serve as an opportunity for self-reflection, to close ranks, strengthen the party, and regain the people’s trust following defeats at the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, says Tengku Zafrul Aziz.

Tengku Zafrul, an ex-officio member of the party’s political bureau, said PKR needs to identify its weaknesses and ensure that its machinery operates more effectively.

“If the people have yet to see the results of what we have worked for, then it is also our responsibility to communicate more clearly and effectively.

“At the same time, we must listen to the people’s concerns with an open mind. Take note of matters that remain unresolved, and then work on it,” he said in a Facebook post, adding that as a newcomer he wanted the party to remain strong.

Tengku Zafrul joined PKR in July last year a few months after quitting Umno, where he was a Supreme Council member.

He went on to say that PKR’s performance at the recent state polls called for “honest self-reflection”.

PKR won two of the 16 seats it contested at the Negeri Sembilan state election, and only managed to secure one seat of the 20 it vied for in Johor.

Tengku Zafrul said while the party may be disappointed with its partners in the unity government, PKR could not control them.

“What we can improve is our own party. So, let us focus on strengthening the party,” he added. - FMT
