Aidil storms into Vietnam Open semi-finals

 The singles shuttler is on his best run this year after being knocked out in the early stages of all other tournaments.

PETALING JAYA:

National men’s singles shuttler Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin advanced to the Vietnam Open semi-finals, beating a much higher-ranked Chinese player in the last eight match today.

The 91st ranked independent player defeated China’s world No 43 Dong Tian Yao 21-18, 21-17 in 42 minutes at the Nguyen Du Club in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Aidil has had a great run in the tournament, part of the World Tour Super 100 championships, beating all higher-ranked players in straight games in his last four matches for his best performance so far this year.

In the last four tie tomorrow, Aidil will face Japan’s world No 53 Minoru Koga, which will be their first encounter against each other.

Also through to the semi-finals are men’s doubles pair Choong Hon Jian-Wong Vin Sean who beat Taiwan’s Cheng Kai Wen-Liao Chao Pang easily in straight games of 21-16, 21-8.

The world No 91 pair will meet Taiwanese duo Chen Zhi Ray-Lin Chieh Yu in the last four tie tomorrow. - FMT
