PETALING JAYA:
A special committee on Felda will submit an interim report on recommended improvements for the statutory body to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim by the end of the month.

The Prime Minister’s Department said the committee, which comprises some of the government’s top policy advisers, was formed in June last year to study Felda’s 2025-2030 strategic plan.

In a statement, it said the committee met six times over the past year with relevant parties, including Felda’s management, to look into several matters.

This includes the delisting of FGV Holdings Bhd and governance weaknesses in the procurement or investment in eight assets flagged in a white paper tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in April 2019.

“The special committee only functions as an advisory body, with the fiduciary responsibilities remaining with Felda’s board of directors and management as well as its subsidiaries, according to their existing governance structures.

“An interim report containing the committee’s findings and recommendations will be submitted at the end of this month for the prime minister’s consideration,” said the Prime Minister’s Department.

The committee is co-led by FVSB executive chairman Ahmad Fuad Ali and Bank Negara Malaysia independent non-executive board member Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, an economist.

Fuad and Nungsari are both members of Anwar’s policy advisory committee, which is chaired by former Petronas CEO Hassan Marican.

The committee also includes Anwar’s economic adviser Nurhisham Hussein, who is a former EPF chief strategy officer, and representatives from the finance and economy ministries, as well as Ernst & Young PLT Malaysia and the law firm Mohamad Hanafiah Zakaria, Advocates & Solicitors.

Last year, Anwar ordered Felda to submit a strategic plan and 2025-2030 roadmap to ensure a better future for Felda settlers.

The prime minister said the government had been injecting nearly RM1 billion annually into Felda, and that a “major transformation” was required in the organisation. - FMT
