Prioritise party or we seek 'refund', Tampin Umno warns N Sembilan govt

 

UMNO AGM | A Negeri Sembilan Umno division leader today nudged state government leaders to put the party's interests first.

Tampin Umno division chief Isam Isa, in his debate speech, reminded the state leaders not to forget that it was Umno that put them in their current positions.

Cautioning the leaders that they could be replaced if they failed to deliver for the party, Isam (above) appeared to take a veiled swipe at Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim by suggesting that the latter was never the intended choice.

"Order barang lain, dapek barang lain," Isam said in Negeri Sembilan dialect, which translates to a viral catchphrase about receiving an item different than what one ordered online.

"I believe everyone here would agree that this all boils down to each person’s own fortune. Thank you, Jalal (Negeri Sembilan Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias) for keeping a cool head and placing the interest of the party above all else.

"However, if we order something and we get something else, we can always report to the consumers tribunal. We can change (the product) or get a refund," the Tampin MP said.

It is understood that Isam was referring to the circumstances that led to the Juasseh assemblyperson being appointed Negeri Sembilan menteri besar following the state election.

Ismail (above), who is the Kuala Pilah Umno division chief, was chosen by the party leadership to head the state administration over Jalaluddin, who had been widely tipped to become menteri besar.

‘Reward party members’

In his speech, Isam also advised the state administration to start rewarding party members who helped Umno to score victory in the state polls, especially those from its women’s wing.

"Now that we are in power, please take care of Umno and strengthen the party at both the branch and division levels.

"Let’s not repeat the mistakes of the past. When we lost power, we no longer had any assets or properties.

"Give them a chance. Look after Wanita Umno (women’s wing) as well. Give them a chance. They are willing to toil, braving the rain and heat to get voters out right up until the very last moment.

"Don’t even talk about becoming (election) candidates - they were not even given the chance to become local council members or village heads. “Why be so calculative? Give Umno women a chance, ladies and gentlemen," Isam said. - Mkini
