Its vice-chancellor Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin says the university would take appropriate measures to improve and strengthen every process involved.
UiTM vice-chancellor Shahrin Sahib @ Sahibuddin said the university would review the safety procedures, health screenings, risk management and emergency response measures adopted for the Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge, Sinar Harian reported.
“The university will extend its full cooperation to the authorities in their investigations, while reviewing all aspects of the event,” he said in a statement.
Shahrin also said UiTM would take appropriate measures to improve and strengthen its processes, stressing that the safety, health and welfare of its students must not be compromised.
A 21-year-old student who participated in the endurance challenge, Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Fellimal, died yesterday afternoon at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh.
Besides Fadhlan, another student also received treatment at the same hospital. Seven others were treated at Jengka Hospital.
Maran police chief Wong Kim Wai earlier said a preliminary investigation found that the students had suffered heat-related problems, including a lack of oxygen, while taking part in the endurance programme.
Meanwhile, the UiTM branch in Jengka said it would provide full assistance to Fadhlan’s family, according to Sinar Harian.
The Jengka campus said the organisers have decided to cancel all outdoor activities scheduled for today.
It added that the programme was conducted in compliance with strict health and safety SOPs, with participants required to undergo health screenings before the programme began, and health checks before each activity. - FMT
