DETRACTRORS – believed to be mostly PKR’s cybertroopers a.k.a. ceplos – are hot on the heels of BERSAMA’s co-leader Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad whom they reckoned as the “public figure” arrested by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) on Thursday (Oct 16) evening over a khalwat (close proximity) offence in Petaling Jaya.
Two individuals have been detained to assist in investigations into the suspected offence under Section 29 of the Syariah Crimes Enactment (Selangor) 1995, according to JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad.
“If convicted, the offender can be sentenced to a fine not exceeding RM3,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years or both,” he pointed out in a statement yesterday (Oct 17) purportedly after cyberspace was abuzz over the arrest of the said “public figure”.
Tongues started wagging over the matter after PKR cybertrooper Edy Noor Redhuan penned a short Facebook post “of Threaders spreading news of Nik Nazmi entering a JAIS van”.
“What case could it be? If this is a Ramadan month, we can understand la,” added the Negeri Sembilan PKR deputy information chief.
Interestingly, the pro-Madani political commentator retracted his earlier post by apologising for his oversight given “I just realised his father had passed away the day before”.
“Soon after posting, I was engaged in a meeting, hence the delay in deleting my earlier post … once again, I’m sorry . Alfatehah (prayers for the deceased) for NN’s (Nik Nazmi) father.”
This was when pro-BERSAMA supporters retaliated by attacking Edy for stooping so low as to mount “a personal attack on Nik Nazmi for alleged involvement in disgusting matters”.
“Yesterday (Oct 14) Nik Nazmi lost his father … Fuh, politics can turn out to be so ugly, Great ” jibed one 𝐓𝐨𝐤 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐠 (@tok.hang67).
“Today is malam Jumaat (Thursday evening before solemn Friday). May Allah SWT respond with justice.”
That the JAIS media statement which was picked up by local media somehow revived the speculation over “Nik Nazmi’s ride in the JAIS van” with video clips circulating of “moments before the raid” of a man and woman entering a lift and eventually the same apartment.
Editor’s Note: Based on various media sources, Nik Nazmi, 44, was married to Dr Imaan Abdul Rahim on August 7, 2005 with the couple having one son. However, they officially divorced by talak satu at the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court on July 1, 2019.
He later married Noor Farah Rahim in January 2021.
As pointed out by those familiar with khalwat raids, the entire episode “could be orchestrated by some jealous quarters” especially if the arrest takes place at one’s home.
“The former politician who was caught in a secret affair must have had spies who were just waiting for the right time to report it to JAIS,” suggested Threader Daya M. (@_tehtarikhalia).

JAIS rarely arrests people if there’s no report lodged. It means people have been watching him for a long time and are just waiting for the right moment to report.
In the clip, he looks like he was arrested at home. Politicians wouldn’t go to a budget hotel, would they? Maybe he lives with his scandal.
Whether this is the job of saboteurs who are purportedly viewing BERSAMA as a reputational threat to PKR by virtue of the newly minted party being a splinter, some presumably BERSAMA members concurred that “Nik Nazmi should be fired immediately if the allegation is true”.
“We need to show, our support is for the party, not the individual. The party needs to do something,” asserted one self-proclaimed “engineer by day , property hunter by night
”.
“Agreed. The party needs to make an immediate explanation,” echoed a commenter while tagging the BERSAMA headquarters, fellow co-leader Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi himself.
