Rain water may play a key role in creating the climates of certain areas. Its very presence in the atmosphere provides for a type of direct evaporation that replenishes the moisture and heat in cloud systems.
Well, you could survive on melted snow, if that resource is all you had. But without rain or snow, there would be very little animal or plant life on land. Haven’t you heard of the Water Cycle? Seawater evaporates, and that water vapor blows over land and falls out as rain of snow. The evaporation process removes the salt from seawater and makes it usable by land-based life. That’s the big picture.
Yes, you can live in a place that experiences very little rain. Nothing to spoil your picnic or golf plans. Sounds great, right? So move to an irrigated landscape, in a place like Phoenix, Las Vegas or Denver. You’ll love it at first… until you start to notice how dirty and dingy everything is outdoors. The the dust storms will blow in, choking your throat and hiding your mountain views. Or is that a wildfire? I ache for rain. Pardon me,
