Anwar Ibrahim says he was informed of the proposed investment in a recent video conference.

He said the proposed investment, conveyed to him by the investor during a recent video conference, would be one of the largest in the region.
“Last Tuesday, one of the world’s largest investors held a video conference with me. The investor said he had chosen Kuching in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia for an investment worth US$50 billion, one of the largest investments in the region.
“Young people studying at universities and in schools must recognise that this means better employment opportunities,” he was quoted as saying by Bernama in Melaka.
Anwar said international investors’ confidence in Malaysia must be maintained by ensuring political stability and conducive conditions.
“If people don’t have confidence in this government, and if its leaders are constantly quarrelling, investors will not be interested in coming here,” he said.
Anwar also said the peace and harmony among Malaysia’s multiracial and multireligious communities were among the country’s strengths and should be leveraged to attract more foreign investment.
He said Malaysia must continue strengthening its capabilities in emerging technology fields, particularly AI and semiconductors, and in digitalisation to ensure sustainable economic growth.
Anwar stressed that success in attracting investments and driving economic growth must be translated into real benefits for the people, including better job opportunities and higher standards of living. - FMT
