Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says the data sharing will help the immigration department screen travellers leaving and entering the country.

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the data would be made available under the National Integrated Immigration System (NIISe), which the immigration department is progressively transitioning to from the current MyIMMs system.
“The NIISe system will be improved in terms of preliminary screenings, traveller risk assessment profiling as well as the integration and sharing of real-time data between various agencies,” he said.
In a written parliamentary reply, Saifuddin said data from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and transport ministry would also be consolidated under the NIISe system to help the immigration department guard the nation’s borders.
In the long term, he said, the government would develop a national border control system based on artificial intelligence and data analytics to handle future security challenges.
“This will enable operations to be carried out without supervision, the swift channelling of information in real time, and continuous round-the-clock surveillance to protect our land and maritime borders.
“This system is part of the ministry’s plans, and we are still in the midst of refining its details,” said the minister.
In September last year, it was reported that LHDN banned around 209,000 taxpayers from travelling for failing to pay their taxes, while PTPTN blacklisted nearly 3,000 borrowers for failing to repay their education loans. - FMT
