Tunnel kickback claims 'desperate lies', says Guan Eng

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has dismissed as "desperate lies" claims in the media today that key politicians have received kickbacks related to the undersea tunnel project.
Lim said he could not take legal action against the perpetrator of these lies as nobody was named as having received kickbacks.
He is currently in Sabah and he would disprove the allegations tomorrow, added Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general.
"Just mudslinging against the Penang state government. We will prove tomorrow why they are lies," was his brief reply when asked to respond to the claims that quoted "sources" from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Lim was responding to a front-page report in the New Straits Times, which quoted anonymous sources alleging that kickbacks were given to “key politicians” in the Penang undersea tunnel project.
The sources had claimed that the information was based on MACC's “preliminary findings" after the graft buster raided about 20 agencies to seize documents related to the RM6.3 billion project.
The sources said there were politicians who received between tens of thousands and several million ringgit for their cooperation.
Sources added that these politicians may be linked to the two plots of land involved in the land swap deal as payment for the studies, "which are of high value".
The deal inked between the Penang government and Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd in 2013, will link the island to the mainland in North Seberang Perai.
Construction is slated for 2023 with the completion of the project planned for 2027.
Lim has insisted that the Penang government did not pay a single cent to the contractor for the project.- Mkini
