TG PIAI POLLS | The Election Commission (EC) has rebuffed Gerakan's claims that it was biased against the party.
Gerakan alleged that the EC had unfairly prevented the party from putting up campaign materials from specific areas, such as near the Pekan Nanas public market.
EC deputy chief Azmi Sharom, however, said that Gerakan's representative in the commission's enforcement unit did not object to the banners being taken down as it had been explained to them why it had to be done.
"Every time campaign material is taken down there will be a party representative," he told Malaysiakini.
Azmi said all campaign materials have to abide by local authority regulations.
He added that the EC had also taken down posters and banners by Pakatan Harapan, BN and others for the same reasons.
"In fact there were flags put up to cover (Gerakan candidate) Wendy Subramaniam's image, and we took those down too because it is not fair," Azmi told Malaysiakini.
He said all campaign materials removed were handed back to the respective parties so they can put it up elsewhere.
As such, Azmi said, Gerakan's complaints of bias were unfair.
He said the EC thus far has not received any objections from any party representatives when it took down campaign materials. - Mkini
