PETALING JAYA: A total of 806 participants at the Sri Petaling mosque tabligh gathering have been relocated to a quarantine centre, Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa said.
He said attendees with no symptoms of Covid-19 infection are also being quarantined in two designated locations – the Malaysian Social Institute (ISM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Academy (MACC).
This follows the decision by the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and the health ministry to set up 11 quarantine centres in the federal territories, including Labuan, from yesterday.
“3/4 in the mosque will be moved to the quarantine centre. They will be provided with food and healthcare until they are allowed to return to their villages or homes,” he said on Facebook today.
Putrajaya had earlier gazetted 409 locations across the country as quarantine centres. The decision was made by Health Minister Dr Adham Baba in accordance with Section 2 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
Annuar said 132 tahfiz students staying near the mosque and 104 staff members from various agencies had been transferred to ISM since yesterday.
“It increases our workload because we have to relocate them in two or three different locations. But we have to do it to control the spread,” he said.
He also also appealed to all the tabligh participants to come forward for Covid-19 screening, regardless of whether they were Malaysians, documented migrants under the United Nations Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) or unregistered foreign workers.
“Don’t be afraid, please come forward. It doesn’t matter if you have the symptoms or not. By doing so, we can control the spread as cooperation from all of you is essential,” he said. - FMT
