PETALING JAYA: An NGO leader today claimed that an activist couple currently warded after they were suspected of being infected with the Covid-19 virus has not been transparent to the public, and could pose a risk to those who had been in contact with them.
The NGO leader, who refused to be named, claimed the husband and wife human rights activist couple was “very well known”.
“Many have come into contact with this couple, especially other NGO activists,” he told FMT.
He said the couple must explain why they had kept their health status a secret as this was irresponsible and not transparent.
It is understood that the couple had only informed about their health status in private group chats.
“They must come clean because they were in public, where members of the press were also in close contact with them,” said a Kuala Lumpur-based journalist.
Responding to this, Deputy Health Minister I Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali said community leaders or VIPs who were hiding their exposure to Covid-19 were not helping to flatten the curve of the spread.
He said those tested positive must self-isolate and come clean so others could distance themselves.
“Many would be infected if those tested positive did not isolate themselves,” he said. - FMT
