MIRI: Sarawak began enforcing a 7pm-7am curfew on Tuesday (March 24) – the first such restriction since the days of the communist insurgency about 50 years ago.
The curfew will last until March 31, in line with the movement control order (MCO) imposed by the Federal Government.
The curfew in Sarawak is an additional and stricter measure being enforced by the state government to stem the spread of Covid-19 which has claimed five lives here already.
Among those exempted from the curfew are frontline delivery staff and medical personnel as well as journalists.
A check by The Star in Miri showed a high level of compliance from the public.
The city centre is silent and devoid of people while the eight major commercial centres are also all closed.
The population of 350,000 Mirians is staying home, except for a pocket of homeless people. - Star
