Allocation for opposition MPs will ‘kill’ BN – Tajuddin

BN has rejected proposals to provide equal monetary allocations to opposition MPs in return for their support for the Budget 2021 proposal to be tabled on Friday.

Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said the proposal - if accepted - amounts to “killing” BN.

“We don’t agree, why should we give it to them? It would kill us.

“Previously when they (Pakatan Harapan) ruled, they don’t give it to us either,” he told reporters after attending a meeting between BN parliamentarians in Kuala Lumpur today.

Tajuddin said the issue was raised during the meeting.

At the same time, Tajuddin said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had no reason to doubt BN’s support for the budget proposal.

“We have decided to support the budget. We want to make it known that we will support the budget that will be tabled by the government without hesitation.

“The prime minister need not worry,” he said.

Previously, opposition MPs had pressed for a confidence and supply agreement in return for their support for the Budget 2021 proposal which is being seen as a test for Muhyiddin and his Perikatan Nasional government’s legitimacy.

Meanwhile, BN secretary-general Annuar Musa said the confidence and supply issue was not discussed in-depth at the meeting.

“It was discussed generally to understand what a confidence and supply agreement is,” he said.

He added that the BN chief whip will provide a further explanation to the coalition’s MPs regarding the coming budget proposal.

“For now, we have only discussed to obtain information so that everyone understands. The party’s decision will be informed by the chief whip […]

“What is important is that we are relieved and happy that all BN parliamentarians have united and will decide based on party decisions,” he said. - Mkini
