BN lawmakers agree to support Budget 2021 - Zahid

BN parliamentarians have pledged their support for Budget 2021 that will be tabled by Muhyiddin Yassin's administration this Friday.

In a statement today, BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he wrote to the prime minister about the consensus reached by all 43 BN lawmakers at a meeting yesterday.

"The BN lawmakers, including the ministers and deputy ministers, a total of 43 of them who met on Nov 3 have agreed on a consensus to continue giving undivided support for Budget 2021 which will be tabled on Nov 6, as well as all the bills that will be tabled by the government," he said.

The lawmakers also urged the government to extend the loan moratorium for another six months or part thereof for those who are qualified under the B40 and M40 groups, he said.

"We also agreed that the prime minister should consider approving the withdrawal of fund from Account 1 of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) for those who fulfilled certain requirements," he said.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin said the government would study the suggestion to allow withdrawal of fund from EPF as well as the method to facilitate the process for those who need the support.

The upcoming budget is seen as a vote of confidence for Muhyiddin's leadership after the controversial political coup in February.

The ongoing Dewan Rakyat sitting saw 27 motions of confidence with two motions for the leadership of Muhyiddin while 25 against the prime minister.

BN, particularly Umno, which has a strained relationship with Muhyiddin's party Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional (PN), had once threatened to withdraw its support for the ruling coalition.

Umno, however, reaffirmed its support for PN but demanded better cooperation based on respect and political consensus. - Mkini
