MELAKA: The Melaka state government has terminated a land reclamation agreement to build three new islands in the RM43 billion Melaka Gateway project.
The Chief Minister’s Office said today that the agreement with property developer KAJ Development Sdn Bhd, signed in October 2017, had expired on Oct 3.
A termination notice was sent to the company today after it failed to complete the 246ha project, the government statement said, Bernama reported.
“The company is also required to return the project site, effective upon the termination notice issued by the state government.
“Therefore, all matters arising regarding the Melaka Gateway project site should be directly communicated with the Melaka state government,” it said in a statement.
Melaka Gateway is a mixed development project worth RM43 billion, consisting of three new islands.
It was said to include an international cruise terminal large enough to accommodate four cruise ships at the same time. Other facilities would have included a marina for yachts, luxury condominiums, bungalows with private marina, tourist eco-parks, and theme parks.
A new deep-sea port was also to be built with the help of three Chinese companies, according to news reports. - FMT
