Covid-19 cases spike in Klang due to 4 clusters - MOH

COVID-19 | Clusters at workplaces were the driving force behind the recent spike in Klang's Covid-19 cases, said the Health Ministry (MOH).

Its director-general, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that the situation in Klang is still under control as authorities have the ability to contain the infection through public health intervention.

"So far, we can still contain (the outbreak). We can identify the clusters and individuals involved.

"And this allows contact tracing to be carried out and for us to conduct public health activities," he told reporters during a presser in Putrajaya today.

He was asked what the Health Ministry's risk assessment for Klang is, and whether they are looking into enforcing the enhanced movement control order (MCO) on the district to prevent the outbreak from worsening.

Based on statistics, Klang today recorded 47 new positive cases, increasing the total number of active cases there to 426.

According to Noor Hisham, MOH has identified four clusters that contributed to the spike, namely the Usaha, Perigi, Bah Manggis, and Teratai clusters.

The index case of the Usaha cluster was a 29-year-old man who worked at a food and beverage processing factory. The cluster has generated 226 cases.

Meanwhile, the Perigi cluster involved residents of a workers hostel at Jalan Perigi Nanas in Pulau Indah, Klang, which so far infected 71 individuals.

Two other clusters - Bah Manggis, where the index case has a travel history to Sabah, has affected 159 individuals, while the Teratai Cluster involved workers at a factory in the district and so far has 91 cases.

"These are the cases which have contributed to our public health activities. And there are also sporadic cases in the community."

Noor Hisham said that MOH is enhancing its activities on the ground to trace positive cases. - Mkini
