Former minister of culture, youth and sports Mokhtar Hashim passed away at the age of 78 earlier today.
The matter was confirmed by his nephew, Ahmad Hafiz Abdul Raffar through a Facebook post, reports Bernama.
According to Ahmad Hafiz, his uncle died at 3.10 am.
It is understood that Mokhtar passed away at the Ampang Hospital.
Once touted as a future prime minister, Mokhtar's career ground to a halt in 1983 when he was found guilty of the murder of then Gemencheh assemblyperson and Negeri Sembilan speaker Mohamad Taha Talib.
The late Mokhtar was later granted a royal pardon and was freed on July 10, 1991. - Mkini
