The police division dealing with vice, gambling, and secret societies, known as D7, and two other departments are undergoing a major revamp after some of the officers were believed to have been working hand in glove with criminal syndicates.
The other two are the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID). D7 is one of the divisions under the CID.
Berita Harian quoted Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador (above) as saying that the Bukit Aman Management Department had formed a special committee to screen all police personnel who are qualified to carry out their duties in those departments.
Those found to have taken advantage of certain syndicates or criminals involved in gambling and drug businesses would be moved out.
Abdul Hamid said the screening process involved Bukit Aman, contingent and district levels, with the initial focus point to be the Klang Valley, notably Kuala Lumpur.
"This is important to ensure that Kuala Lumpur is clear of police officers who have abused their power and have reflected badly on the police force's image," he added.
According to Abdul Hamid, last month, a total of 34 senior police officers nationwide were transferred as they had integrity issues after they were believed to have been in cahoots with certain syndicates.
The transfer process, he said, is far from over.
"In the near future, there will be more transfers, and I put that responsibility to the Management Department director Ramli Din (below).
"While those who have the potential and pass the screening process will be absorbed into 'hot' departments such as D7 and NCID," he added.
Abdul Hamid reiterated his stand to never compromise with the men in blue who develop a "special relationship" with criminals and promised stern action against his men who work with them.
Last month, MACC arrested 10 individuals, including four senior police officers, over their involvement with a Macau syndicate.
They were carrying the ranks of assistant commissioner of police, deputy superintendent, and assistant superintendents. They were based at Bukit Aman and the Selangor contingent police headquarters.
The syndicate is said to have targeted its victims in China and used Malaysia as an operational hub and to launder money. - Mkini
