Top Glove's share price tumbles as workers hit by Covid-19

Top Glove's share price closed 7.07 percent lower today as news spread about its workers being quarantined due to Covid-19.

At closing, Top Glove last traded at RM7.20, down 58 sen, reaching levels not seen since early September.

Top Glove has been the darling of stock investors this year, having risen 364.5 percent year-to-date as global demand for rubber gloves soar due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is thus ironic that some of Top Glove's worker dormitories have been identified to be part of a Covid-19 cluster designated as "Teratai" by the Health Ministry.

According to Health Ministry data, the Teratai cluster has 214 cases as of noon yesterday.

The National Security Council today mandated that an area in Meru, Selangor, where some of Top Glove's dormitories are located, be locked down to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

According to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob, some 13,190 Top Glove staff and 1,200 local residents will be affected by the lockdown. - Mkini
