KOTA KINABALU: Lion, unicorn and dragon dance troupes must seek police permission to perform during Chinese New Year.

Group members must also be fully vaccinated, while children under 12 are not allowed to take part in the performances.

"There should be 1m physical distancing and they have to wear face masks," according to the state's standard operating procedures (SOP) for the festive period from Jan 31 to Feb 15.

Family reunion dinners are allowed on the eve of Chinese New Year but there are guidelines for house visitation, including that the host must provide My Sejahtera QR code for records and ensure the number of guests are at 50 per cent of the capacity of the premises.

For prayers at non-Muslim religious institutions, sessions for vaccinated people are limited to two hours per session between 6am and 10pm. Children under 12 are allowed to attend if they are accompanied by vaccinated adults.

No procession or religious ceremony is allowed.

The premises must also be sanitised 30 minutes prior to the next prayer session.

Congregants are also reminded to wear masks, practise physical distancing and use hand sanitisers.

As for special prayers for the Hokkien community on Feb 8 and 9, they can have it at home in accordance to their own traditions. - NST
