Johor DAP vice-chairperson S Ramakrishnan has dismissed the claims by Bersatu’s associate wing chief Edmund Santhara Kumar that 1,000 Johor DAP members had attempted to defect to Bersatu.
“With the political situation in the country reaching a stalemate, some individuals seem bent on creating a storm in the proverbial teacup, just to get the attention of their new masters.
“The recent media statement by Segamat MP Santhara (above) claiming that he received 1,000 former DAP Johor members’ application forms to join Bersatu is one such example, which is completely unfounded as it is not supported with any evidence,” said Ramakrishnan in a statement today.
Ramakrishnan was referring to the eight DAP branches that were listed by Santhara. One of the leaders mentioned has since disassociated from that faction and has chosen to remain with the party, he added.
Ramakrishnan also said aside from the committee members of the seven remaining branches, the other members are inactive and may not even be aware of “the sinister motives” of the branch leaders.
He also compared DAP with Bersatu, saying that DAP is a multi-racial party with many prominent leaders from various backgrounds.
Meanwhile, he said Santhara appears to be happy being in a race-based party where associate members have no voting rights.
“Santhara himself contested in the 14th general election under the multiracial PKR ticket and later hopped to Bersatu, betraying the trust, wish and hopes of Segamat voters.
“For Santhara, the non-voting status of non-Malays in Bersatu is a non-issue to him. We can only hope these associate members know what they are in Bersatu for,” Ramakrishnan said. - Mkini
