A formal notice has been issued to all the 220 Members of Parliament to attend the special sitting of the House on April 11, at which the anti-hopping bill will be tabled.
Dewan Rakyat Secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin said the notice issued today follows Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun being officially notified of the forthcoming sitting.
"The speaker was informed by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob that, in the name of public good, it is urgent to convene a special sitting before the date for the next sitting set under Standing Order 11(3).
"Therefore, I hereby issue a notice to all MPs that a special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat will be held on Monday, April 11, at the Parliament building in Kuala Lumpur," Nizam said.
"The matter to be raised at the special sitting are Federal Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2022 on party hopping and limiting the term of the prime minister," he added.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said there was no problem for the special sitting to be held in the month of Ramadan as the Dewan Rakyat sitting had previously been held during the fasting month.
The constitutional amendments were initially expected to be tabled during the last Dewan Rakyat sitting that ended on Thursday, amid pressure from MPs on the government and opposition benches. - Mkini
