PAS bringing polygamy into politics, says Nur Jazlan

PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has mocked PAS for “bringing polygamy into politics” by wavering in their decision to cooperate with Umno under Muafakat Nasional.

Nur Jazlan Mohamed, who is Johor Umno deputy chief, claimed that PAS only wanted to enter into relationships with anyone that they could benefit from.

“PAS has brought polygamy into politics and simply wants to reap any benefits they can get.

“They have now perceived Perikatan Nasional (PN) as an ailing coalition — that’s why they say they’re still open to maintaining ties with BN and Umno,” he told FMT.

Yesterday, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Muafakat Nasional (MN), the party’s pact with Umno, would be re-evaluated after the Johor elections on March 12.

According to him, their ties nurtured under the MN pact have not been severed, despite the contests in the state elections between PAS (competing under PN) and Umno (BN).

Tuan Ibrahim had said that the pact made in September 2019 was far from “dead and buried”, adding that there were “no tombstones with MN’s name on it”.

Nur Jazlan said PAS seemed to be wavering as their own leaders held differing opinions on MN.

“PAS is undecided and making excuses. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang says he had severed ties with Umno, but Tuan Ibrahim is saying the opposite.”

According to Nur Jazlan, the status of the relationship between the two parties in MN would be finalised at the Umno general assembly on March 16.

Meanwhile, Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin, when asked to comment on the same matter, said Umno was completely focused on the Johor polls.

“We’re preoccupied with the Johor elections now. We’re not even thinking about MN. BN is working hard to win,” he said. - FMT
