Puteri Wangsa voters can create history again, says MP

Hannah Yeoh said at 27, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz is the youngest secretary-general of a political party.

PETALING JAYA: Voters in the Puteri Wangsa constituency have a chance of making history again if they return Muda candidate Amira Aisya Abd Aziz to the Johor state assembly, an MP said today.

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh of DAP said a Muda victory on March 12 would give the party its first elected member of a state assembly. It would also mark the fourth consecutive time that a different party had won in the constituency.

“In 2004, Barisan Nasional won the seat while it was PAS in the next one. Then it was Pakatan Harapan in 2018. I am convinced the voters here are courageous going by the voting pattern.

“I am confident they will give Muda’s Amira an opportunity to show that the party is capable of representing the constituency effectively,” she said at a press conference today.

Yeoh said Amira, who is 27 and already secretary-general of her party, faced a difficult battle in her seat, in which there are six contenders.

The others are Ng Yew Aik (BN), Dr Khairil Anwar Razali (Pejuang), Loh Kah Yong (PN), Steven Choong (PBM) and independent Adzrin Adam.

“Amira is extremely humble and has been openly fighting multiracial issues and does not play to the gallery,” she added.

Asked if Muda will eventually play any role in the local authorities of states run by PH, she said the results in the Johor elections will have a bearing on this.

“We will have to look at what the voters want and who they choose. This will determine the arrangement in the future.

“If PH and Muda working together is supported by the people, I believe the leadership in the coalition will discuss and chart a way forward,” she said. -FMT
