The organisers who held a dinner that featured risque dances in the presence of Muslim political leaders should come forward to apologise, said Kuala Nerus MP Khairuddin Aman Razali.
According to Khairuddin, the former secretary of the PAS Ulama Syura Council, it is not appropriate for a dance ceremony featuring scantily clad performers to be held in the presence of Muslim political leaders, even though the organiser is non-Muslim.
“What’s more, it also contradicts the values of the East and the values of Malaysian society.
“At a time when the people are faced with the Covid-19 disaster and when the people are invited to pray for forgiveness from God to be released from the disaster - what happened hurt the people’s feelings.
“It is necessary to immediately come forward to make an official apology to the people because it also affects the name of political partners at a time when the election campaign is in full swing,” he said in a post on social media, today.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leadership was treated to a colourful dance show at a Chinese-style dinner that saw the attendance of around 800 people last night.
The dinner event, hosted at Austin International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, also saw the presence of Chinese businesspersons and community leaders.
A giant projector screen named PN chairperson and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin and Gerakan president Dominic Lau as the guests of honour.
The Chinese businesspersons joined the PN leaders at a long table in front of the stage together. Also at the table was Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
They were entertained by a series of dance performances to the tune of ‘Candyman’ and ‘Ain’t No Other Man’ by Christina Aguilera, ‘Pump It’ by Bond and ‘Upside Down’ by Paloma Faith, to name a few.
In making the bitter reprimand, Khairuddin stressed that it needed to be made so that the community can evaluate PN principles that are clearly related to Islam. - Mkini
