GEORGE TOWN: Two former top office-bearers of an Umno division here have been remanded for seven days for an investigation into allegedly withdrawing RM600,000 in party funds for their personal use.
The duo, in their late 50s and early 70s, were remanded until Sept 19 for investigation under Section 23(1) of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 for abuse of power.
MACC’s remand application was granted by magistrate Rosnee Mohd Radzuan.
It was learnt that the two men had reports lodged against them after making several withdrawals from the Umno division’s bank account.
The funds were purportedly transferred to an education foundation for their private use. - FMT
