PETALING JAYA: An opposition MP has praised the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the federal government and Pakatan Harapan, which was signed a year ago today.

PKR’s Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil said about 83% of the items agreed upon in the MoU had been achieved.

He said the passing of the anti-hopping law in Parliament, Undi18 and automatic voter registration, the restoration of Sabah and Sarawak’s position as signatories of the Malaysia Agreement, and equal allocation of funds for government and opposition MPs, were among the reforms successfully accomplished under the MoU.

“All these reforms have been accomplished to make Malaysia a more stable country,” he said in a statement.

“These reforms would not have been possible without the MoU.”

Fahmi added that these accomplishments also proved to the people that PH was able to put aside political interests for the well-being of Malaysians.

“If these reforms were achieved through the MoU, imagine how much more institutional reforms can be done if the people’s mandate was given to PH once again.”

On Sept 13 last year, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and PH leaders signed the MoU agreeing to work together to help bolster economic recovery and restore political stability while the government managed the Covid-19 pandemic.

Though the MoU does not have an expiry date, it states that the government and PH had agreed not to hold GE15 before July 31. - FMT
