Former Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa thinks the party should work together with PAS in the upcoming general election.
"I closely followed PAS' muktamar held recently, and the resolution passed in it.
"PAS has made a strategic decision by declaring that it would continue cooperating with Umno and BN," Annuar, who is also Communications and Multimedia minister, said in a statement today.
According to him, PAS' decision should be seen positively.
"Strategies regarding the 15th general election should be worked on in an effective manner, not based on emotions or self-interests," he added.
Annuar further urged the general election to be held as soon as Umno is prepared in all aspects.
"We must have the 'winning formula' to face the polls. Expediting the election for any other reason would be a 'kamikaze' move for Umno. We must avoid that.
"We must conduct a detailed study to avoid past mistakes," he said, adding the topmost priority for Umno is Malay unity.
"Malay unity has been Umno's core struggle all this while. Umno should not head into the election without completing this agenda, let alone go solo in the changed political scenario," Annuar cautioned.
PAS, in its recent muktamar, unanimously agreed on championing the Malay-Islam cause in the election, with Umno in its fold.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, however, recently said that the party would go solo in the election due to PAS' own actions of deserting the Muafakat Nasional political coalition. - Mkini
