SUNGAI BULOH: Women, family and community development minister Rina Harun has urged people not to politicise a promotional video with actor Rosyam Nor which had purportedly degraded women.
Rina told those up in arms over the video to instead take a look at the contents of the “Wanita Bangkit” programme organised by her ministry.
“At this juncture, let’s not politicise everything. Look at the contents of the programme. What’s important is that many (women) need to be defended and helped,” she told a press conference here.
She also invited Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, who had called for Rina’s resignation over the video, to join her in helping women in need.
“If Yeoh or anyone else wants to assist us in helping women who are in need, we welcome them to do so. Don’t just talk, do.”
Earlier today, Rina drew flak from Yeoh and Pengerang MP Azalina Othman Said over the video in which Rosyam could be heard saying that women were tardy and should get up, when promoting an event for the ministry.
Rosyam also said he would beat up the women who wanted to meet him to wake them up.
In the afternoon, Rina released a video on her social media account in which she claimed she had ticked off the actor and told him not to belittle women.
However, Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto brushed off Rina’s apparent reprimand of Rosyam and accused the minister of trivialising the issue.
The DAP MP claimed that Rina was “doing it for the likes” when responding to Rosyam’s antics, adding “this isn’t what women empowerment is about”. - FMT
