Police outriders escorted two former Thai prime ministers- Thaksin and Yingluck Shinawatra - during their recent trip to Penang.
Penang police chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the police had to escort the siblings to prevent any untoward incidents which would have resulted in negative attention.
"It wasn't even one former prime minister, there were two of them.
"Just imagine if anything untoward had happened to them. (Imagine) the scale of attention that would be given to Penang.
"We do not need that," he said, according to The Star.
Thaksin, 73, was prime minister of Thailand from 2001 to 2006 while Yingluck, 55, held the job from 2011 to 2014.
Both of them were tried and found guilty in absentia by Thai courts. They fled Thailand before they could be jailed.
According to The Star, Thaksin and Yingluck were spotted dining on street food on Sept 21. The newspaper stated that they were on a private holiday. - Mkini
